WHO? WHAT? WHERE?
THE STORY
Each year, the Baw Baw Big Blokes BBQ brings our community together with one clear mission: To champion the health and wellbeing of men in our region.
What began as a grassroots effort to raise awareness around prostate cancer has grown into a major local movement supporting a broader conversation about men’s health. From physical and mental health challenges to the importance of early detection and access to support, the issues facing men today are real, complex, and too often left unspoken.
Our annual event is held at West Gippsland’s premier event space, Lardner Park and it continues to grow in size, strength, and impact. Now in its 13th year, the Blokes BBQ raised an incredible $208,000 in 2024, taking our total fundraising to $1.9 million. These funds support the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and a range of local initiatives that provide education, support services, and life-saving resources for men in West Gippsland. The event is proudly championed by a local committee of passionate blokes who volunteer their time, energy, and heart to make a genuine difference. This event is about more than just a meal, it’s about mates looking out for mates, breaking down stigma, and building a healthier future for our fathers, sons, brothers, and friends.

THE TRUTH
Prostate cancer remains one of the most significant health challenges facing Australian men today.
Each year, over 3,500 men lose their lives to prostate cancer, a number that now exceeds the annual deaths from breast cancer in women.
More than 25,000 new cases are diagnosed across the country annually, and 1 in 6 Australian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
Early detection saves lives, but awareness, education, and open conversations are key.
In addition to supporting the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, funds raised through the Baw Baw Big Blokes BBQ also go toward local men’s health initiatives helping to improve mental health support, access to care, and community wellbeing throughout West Gippsland.
